Specialising in Marriage Counselling & Relationship Therapy
Our passion is healing the soul of relationships & transforming lives.
Welcome
We offer in-person and online therapy sessions and are available during the day, evening and weekends. Our Practice location is in Beckenham BR3, and is easily accessible from South East London locations and Kent.
Zarden Therapy Practice offers therapy services in Marriage Counselling, Couples Therapy and Relationship Counselling for Individuals. Our specialism is offering in-depth couples therapy for partners who feel stuck in recurring patterns and want to create meaningful, lasting change.
We offer weekly sessions, as well as half-day and full-day intensives, providing options and flexibility most suitable for varying needs and lifestyles (dependant and subject to suitability and Initial Assessment Consultation as will be agreed with your therapist).
Our Therapeutic Approach: Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT)
Our approach is Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) for couples, which has a framework that uses a structured dialogue process. This helps to create a safe space for couples to truly hear and understand each other, transform conflict, and build deeper connection and intimacy. Imago can also support couples at different stages of their relationship, including pre-marital preparation enrichment, as well as individuals who want to develop greater self-awareness and understand the patterns they bring to relationships.
Culturally Sensitive, Honouring Difference, Deepening Connection
Our approach integrates cultural sensitivity throughout the imago process. We have specialised training in working with cultural, religious and interracial differences and recognise how identity, beliefs, values and family backgrounds shape our relationships. A fundemental aspect of the Imago approach is to bring curiosity, empathy and respect to these differences, creating space for both partners to feel seen, understood and valued.
Imago, A Practical Approach, A Paradigm Shift
A relationship stays alive when couples trade judgement for curiosity, defensiveness for empathy, and control for respect for the partner and their partners boundaries.
The Imago Dialogue provides a clear and supportive structure for this work, helping couples slow down, listen deeply and communicate in ways that create greater understanding and connection. Whether you are preparing for marriage, navigating challenges or simply wanting to strengthen your relationship, we offer a thoughtful and compassionate space to explore what is happening between you and find a way forward together.
Professional Expertise, Compassionate Care
Professional expertise is at the heart of our work. As highly trained, experienced and BACP Registered therapists, we offer relationship therapy grounded in rigorous training, ethical practice and the highest standards of professional care.
We provide a safe, confidential and professional space for meaningful therapeutic work.
How We Can Help, Next Steps
If you are considering working with us, we invite you to explore our 'Imago Therapy Services' page to discover the different ways we can support you. Alongside individual and couples therapy, we offer focused half-day and full-day Relationship Intensives, providing dedicated periods of therapeutic work designed to create space for deeper exploration, greater understanding and meaningful change.
Intensives can be particularly helpful for those who are unable to commit to traditional weekly appointments, as well as those looking for a more focused approach to relationship therapy.
Subject to an initial relationship assessment consultation, an intensive may be particularly suitable for:
- Couples experiencing a relationship crisis
- Busy professionals with limited time for weekly therapy
- Long-term couples who feel stuck in recurring patterns
- Couples who prefer an intensive format rather than weekly therapy.
If you're unsure whether an intensive or regular therapy would be the best fit, please get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss your needs.
The Impact of Our Work, Couples, In Their Own Words
"We didn’t know what to expect from couples therapy, but immediately felt safe in Cemaliye’s sessions, and the process was transformational. We came in feeling very stuck in a cycle of conversations that seemed to lead to the end of our relationship even though this is not something either of us wanted. Over the time with Cemaliye she helped us to extract ourselves from this cycle and untangle the issues we were having. Although not easy, the process led to moments of clarity, healing and deeper understanding of each other, and we have learned communication skills that we continue to practice and find helpful. Cemaliye is an extremely kind, level and calm therapist and we are grateful to have worked with her." ~ Testimonials, Couple, London.
Imago: Individual Relationship Therapy, A Poem...
Our close relationships can be a source of great happiness and satisfaction in our lives, and yet also of great anxiety and isolation if they start to go wrong. If our relationship is in difficulty or crisis, it can be distressing and disappointing, leaving us feeling guilty, rejected or lonely. Very often, couples will seek counselling as a means of enhancing or rescuing their relationship.
"How should we like it were stars to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
If equal affection cannot be, Let the more loving one be me.” ― W. H. Auden
Are you currently single? Have you been in previous relationships that have ended in ways that feel not only deeply painful but confusing and familiar? Our individual relationship therapy provides a safe environment for individuals who recognise and want to work on any 'blocks' they feel may be preventing them from achieving the kind of relationship they want with a partner. Alternatively, you may be transitioning from the end of a difficult relationship and are left hurt, confused and with questions as to why or how it happened - if either of the above descriptions resonate with you, then we may be able to help.
Our approach and aim is to offer a reflective safe space for individuals to develop personal awareness around 'self' and the 'other' through the therapeutic alliance; where it is possible to explore thoughts and feelings related to specific needs and relational issues. Individuals are given time to begin to unravel the knot and gently begin to understand any repeated patterns or impasse's experienced through previous relationship dynamics. This is a process which can enable greater insight into both the conscious and unconscious influences that can contribute to a less harmonious space in the context of a couple. Our approach and specific training in relationship therapy offers a unique focus for individuals who want to work in depth to create positive change related to future romantic relationships.
"I approached Zarden for individual relationship counselling at one of the lowest points in my life. I was deeply unhappy in a relationship but felt too paralysed with fear and ambivalence to make any changes. Cemaliye is a wonderful listener and has an exceptional ability to help you make sense of complex thoughts and feelings..." Testimonials, Individual, South East London.
Individual Relationship Therapy at Zarden can be defined as a safe creative space for enhancing relational maturity and therefore, a process for developing self-responsibility, self agency and an ability to co-create healthier interdependent relationships for the future. From a holistic stance, we believe such benefits are connected to more life-balance and an enhanced sense of overall well being.
"...the remembered past provides us with the means to maintain, or validate, who we are today and to give focus and direction to who we might wish to become at some future point in time.” ― Ernesto Spinelli, Tales of Un-Knowing
Men and women both experience depression but their symptoms can be very different. Because men who are depressed may appear to be angry or aggressive instead of sad. Their families, friends, and even their doctors may not always recognize the anger or aggression as depression symptoms. In addition, men are less likely than women to recognize, talk about, and seek treatment for depression. Yet depression affects a large number of men. Our approach is collaborative and holistic and acknowledges the differences and needs of each person.
