About Us. Cemaliye 2023

Cemaliye Deran BA (Hons), Dip Couns, Adv. Dip Couples, PG Dip. Sup, Reg mem BACP.

My name is Cemaliye, I am the founder of Zarden Therapy Practice. I am a trained and experienced Counsellor and Couples Therapist with a deep passion and belief in the profound healing value of the talking therapies. I have lived and worked in the South East London area most of my life and particularly enjoy it because of its diverse and multicultural neighbourhoods and community spirit.

Eighteen years ago, I was compelled to change my life path after the sudden loss of a close and significantly important person in my life. This led me on my own personal journey into therapy and healing, which then culminated in my own decision to train as a therapist. Developing Zarden Therapy Practice is a continuing part of this journey; the passion to create safe therapeutic spaces and thus potential for real positive change (for all). Therefore, the ethos of Zarden Therapy Practice is to provide a safe and confidential space where individuals and couples are encouraged to explore any issues they bring and move in a collaborative process towards their identified goals. My premise when working with couples and individuals is creating an environment which promotes an 'inside out learning' and growth; a transformational space which can lead to real and longer term positive change in peoples relationships and lives.

As an Integratively trained, humanistic counsellor, I have worked extensively (qualified 2009) over the last nine years with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and with varying different issues. In 2013, I continued my professional training by completing an Advanced Diploma in Couples Therapy at the Naos Institute as well as a Post Diploma in Clinical Supervision & Consultancy. Other qualifications include a combined degree in Anthropology & Sociology (BA Hons) as a mature student (Goldsmiths University of London) and a Certified Group Therapy Facilitator.

In 2017, I studied the Encountered-centered Couples Therapy (EcCT) Program which is an integrative relational model developed and presented by Hedy Schleifer. In my opinion, the EcCT model offers a powerful way of working with couples in healing the soul of the relationship and helping couples to communicate and re-connect.

More recently (2022), I have added the additional training and experience of 'Imago Relationship Therapy' (IRT) approach into my practice with couples. IRT was developed by Dr. Harville Hendrix and Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt in 1980 and is a form of relationship and couples therapy that focuses on relational counselling to transform any conflict between couples into opportunities for healing and growth. I now exclusively practice from this approach.

Previous work experiences include public sector organisations such as NHS (GP surgeries: Counselling individuals & Couples) in Southwark & Lambeth Boroughs and the addictions field (Adult Drug & Alcohol Services - residential & centres). I have also worked extensively with the elderly in the Housing Sector, as a Parenting Counsellor, School Counsellor and group facilitator offering personal development workshops. All my training, knowledge and experience is invaluable in informing a relational approach in the therapy with individuals and couples. I implicitly and explicitly understand that the quality of the 'therapeutic relationship' between therapist and clients is paramount to healing and positive outcomes in therapy. Therefore, it is from this standpoint that I begin and am committed to offering a safe, comfortable and non-judgemental space for all clients.
